Kotobuki

4822 MacArthur Blvd NW

Washington DC 20007

The Capitol area is replete with Sushi restaurants, many of them excellent. This is a small neighborhood Sushi joint on Macarthur NW out towards Sibley Hospital in the Palisades neighborhood. They are busy all the time which helps to insure the seafood will be fresh. Many sushi or sashimi pieces are one dollar. If you’re not that fond of sushi try the kamameshi – a sampler of traditional Japanese dishes.

This tiny café is very popular with locals; so go early or late if you don’t like to wait. Kotobuki has a beer and wine license and they carry the usual Japanese adult beverages. Oddly enough, this café shares the building with another pricier Japanese restaurant. Confused? Kotobuki is on the top floor. Figs, the famous West End soup and sandwich shop is in the building next door. Their chicken and avacodo sandwich is worth the trip. They also have an excellent selection of traditional North African dishes. If there’s a line at one restaurant, try the other. They’re both good and there isn’t a parking problem in this neck of the city.

Black Salt, a pricey sea food restaurant, is across the street on Macarthur. This restaurant is popular but the service and food quality is erratic for the money. The acoustics here are really annoying. At high tide, the Black Salt isn't noisy, its deafening.
